We want trumpets that sound like thunder, and men to act as though they were going to war with those corrupt and degrading principles that rob one of all rights, merely because he is ignorant, and of a little different color. Let us have principles that will give every one his due; and then shall wars cease, and the weary find rest. William Apess
About This Quote

The first thing we have to recognize is that it is impossible to have a stable society without a stable government. People harbor great hatred towards the government, and yet they can’t even function as a society without it. All the hate in the world has absolutely no effect on the functioning of a government, and yet all those people can muster is anger and vitriol against it. Those frustrated people forget that if they were to start a new government, they would have to start from scratch, and they would have to learn how to govern before they could start their own country.

They would have to learn not only how to keep the peace but also how to keep the laws of nature going on, keeping things going as they should. They would have to learn how to create a peaceful environment where members of the society could live without fear of violence or physical harm from their fellow citizens.
